Here is a list of teams that have qualified for a place in the World Cup in South Africa 2010 upto now.

The following teams have qualified for the play offs and are in contention for a place in the world cup.

Europe

Eight best runners up from the preliminary competition in Europe will compete in the play offs. Only four of these teams can join the group winners to play in South Africa. The matches are due to take place on Saturday, 14th November and Wednesday, 18th November 2009. FIFA will conduct a draw to determine the home and away match fixtures in Zurich on Monday, 19th October 2009.

  • Bosnia-Herzegovina (Group 5)
  • Ukraine (Group 6)

  • Republic of Ireland (Group 8 )

Asia/Oceania

Bahrain and New Zealand are already scheduled for a two-legged play-off, the winners of which get a place at South Africa 2010.

  • New Zealand v Baharain 14/11/09

Africa

Two preliminary rounds have been played but 20 teams still remain in the running. The contenders will play in 5 groups with the winners qualifying for places in South Africa 2010. Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and Ghana are already through.

North, Central America and Caribbean/South America

Twelve teams are competing in the 3rd round of play-offs the lowest placed teams from each of the 3 groups will be eliminated leaving 6 sides to advance to the final stage. The 3 winners of this stage will pass through but because 3.5 teams from this group are eligible for a place the highest placed runner up will play the 5th placed team in the South American qualifiers. One of those teams will make it to the World Cup.
